I study the late nineteenth and early twentieth-century seed industry, including its quest for novelty varieties and engagement with government agencies. I have researched and written accounts of early urban gardening programs and women’s engagement in horticultural pursuits. My dissertation will focus on the history of the Burpee Seed Company, 1876-1915.
