Bio

Claudia Suarez was born in Venezuela and moved to the United States at the age of 16. She is a freelance professional ballet dancer coming into her first year of the BA/MA Program in History at FIU. As a professional ballet dancer, her scholarly interests lie in the history of ballet, particularly in Russia and Cuba in the 20th century with the art form having ties with political ideals during the Cold War. She also has an interest in studying the court of Louis XIV and the beginnings of the ballet technique influenced by the imperial image of the king. Claudia aims to keep dancing professionally in Miami while completing her studies and perhaps applying for a Ph.D. program at New York University or Columbia to become a dance historian.
