Chris Grey
Former Assistant Professor [1995-2000]
Bio
Dr. Gray was an expert on the history of sub-Saharan Africa. His major book, Colonial Rule and Crisis in Equatorial Africa: Southern Gabon ca. 1850–1940 (University of Rochester Press, 2002), was published posthumously. The study addresses local and colonial conceptions of territoriality or space, a reflection of cognitive, spiritual, physical and socio-economic factors and conflicts, and of the dynamic nature of pre-colonial societies. Upon his passing, FIU launched the The Gray Scholarship Endowment to honor his memory. The endowment sponsors the annual Chris Gray Memorial Lecture Series.
