I hold a J.D. degree from Universidad de Antioquia, Colombia (1998) and a Ph.D. in Law from Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Spain (2005). In 2007, I engaged in a study about indigenous jurisdictions that brought me to the field of legal ethnohistory. I completed an M.A. degree in Anthropology at the Universidad de Antioquia (2010) and, subsequently, joined FIU’s doctoral program in Atlantic History. Supervised by Dr. Victor Uribe, my dissertation compares the experiences of two Colombian indigenous communities engaging with the law and producing land titles to face the privatization of their communal landholdings between 1873 and 1945.
