Deadline for Ph.D. Applications December 1; MA Applications February 1
Ph.D. Application Now Due December 1; MA Application Now Due February 1. In order to ensure the applicants to our doctoral program are properly reviewed and competitive for funding, the History Department has changed its deadline for submissions and its procedures for Graduate Applicants. Congratulations to Ph.D. Candidate Christine Ardelan
The University Graduate School has nominated Christine Ardelan's 2012 dissertation, "Forging Professional Public Health Nursing in a Southern State: Florida's Public Health Nurses, 1889 to 1934," for the 2013 Council of Graduate Schools distinguished dissertation in the Humanities. Her dissertation was chosen among all submitted in the Humanities to the UGS since 2011.

The Prince of Asturias supports the launch of FIU’s Initiative for Spanish and Mediterranean Studies
On November 18, 2013, Prof. Aurora Morcillo of the history department was part of an FIU group which met with the Prince and Princess of Asturias during their visit to Miami. FIU's initiative on Spanish and Mediterranean Studies, which Prof. Morcillo is leading, seeks to educate students about Spain and the broader Mediterranean by focusing on its history, culture, politics, economics and international relations, as well as the continuing importance of this region in the 21st century.
