Dr. Nedervelt specializes in border regions, identity, and security in the British Atlantic world during the Age of the American Revolution. His in-progress monograph, tentatively titled The Border-seas of a New British Empire: Security and the British Atlantic Islands in the Age of the American Revolution, explores Great Britain and the United States’ political and military efforts to maintain their national and imperial security by exerting their power over the western Atlantic colonies of Bermuda and the Bahamas between 1775 and 1824. Dr. Nedervelt teaches U.S. and Caribbean history with a focus on seventeenth- and eighteenth-century British America, the comparative colonial Caribbean, U.S.-Caribbean relations, and revolutionary and resistance movements.
