1 - Supporting Multilingual Students

Faculty professional development workshops led by Dr. Paul Kei Matsuda, Arizona State University, Wed. Jan. 28 8:30am-12:30pm (GL220)

Dr. Matsuda, President-elect of the American Association for Applied Linguistics, is a professor of English and director of second language writing at Arizona State University. Founding chair of the symposium on Second Language Writing, he has published widely on issues of language differences and second language writing. He will be discussing language pedagogy, grammar instruction and feedback practice in mainstream composition courses. RSVP

Effectively conferencing multilingual students: Wed. March 4 3:30-5pm / Thur. March 5 1:30 to 3pm (Wed. March 4 MMC GL156, BBC AC1-317; Thur. March 5 MMC DM457B, BBC AC1-317)

In this workshop, we will reflect on our approaches in conferencing multilingual students, discuss strategies and priorities of conferencing, and consider how conferencing can be a site for individualized scaffolding. RSVP

e anticipate a good representation of our program at this year's CCCC at Tampa! In this workshop, participants of CCCC and TESOL international conference will share their conference experience and discuss a few topics of common interests in our program. We will explain effective teaching strategies and techniques showcased during the conferences. We will then discuss the possibility of adapting some of these strategies and techniques to our own teaching context. RSVP

Writing the Literature Review Tuesday, Feb. 10th 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm MMC - GL 125 Wednesday, Feb. 11th 5pm-6pm ONLINE

We will discuss how to write a literature review. If you are currently working on a literature review, you may want to have access to your notes/materials.

Writing the Personal Statement Tuesday, Feb. 24th 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm MMC - GL 125 Wednesday, March 4th 5-6pm BBC Room TBA

We will discuss some different approaches to writing personal statements. This interactive workshop will include some writing activities.

Avoiding Plagiarism Tuesday, March 31st 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm MMC – GL 125 Wednesday April 1st 4-5pm BBC Room TBA

We will discuss the definition of plagiarism and questions about paraphrasing and citing. Please bring any questions you have about plagiarism and paraphrasing.
